Carol Clark Obituary

NORTH LIMA – Carol Sue Clark, 86, entered her heavenly home Thanksgiving morning, November 28, 2024.  Carol was born July 27, 1938, in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Lyle Irvin Clark and Marian Sass Clark.

Moving to Youngstown as an infant, she grew up loving and learning the natural world, tending the gardens and respecting all wildlife and ‘creatures both great and small.’  She soon experienced the Beyond of life in music, art, worship and a loving family and friends.  Carol attended Trinity Methodist, Boardman Methodist, and Evangel Baptist as a child and Mt. Olivet United Church of Christ more recently.

Carol was a 1957 honor graduate of Boardman High School, where she played trombone in the band and cello in the orchestra.  She continued her love of music at The Ohio State University, earning a Bachelor of Music Education and began her teaching career in Columbus.  She also became the first woman trombonist with the Columbus Symphony.  She later taught in New Jersey where she received her Master’s in Conducting at Trenton State University.  In 1971 Carol returned to her alma mater to become the director of the Boardman High School Orchestra leading it to the state record of superior ratings and state competitions.  Her caring guidance and enthusiasm have had a lasting effect as a positive role model and continues to affect the lives of her students and beyond.

Carol then began a second career in the Dog World, training, showing and breeding Norwich Terriers, earning many Bests in Show and a place in the famous Westminster Dog Show and travelling much of the United States in her motor home.

Carol’s sense of humor, enthusiasm, exuberance and delight in all she attempted touched all who were lucky enough to meet her.

Carol is survived by her sister Martha (Howard) Bradley, her beloved niece Jennifer (Dan) Doyle, her beloved nephew Ross (Tammy) Bradley, great nephew Benjamin Bradley and grand niece Ella Bradley, and her constant companion dogs, Taffy and Bindi.

In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her loving cousins Richard and James Sass.

A very special thanks to Frank and Marie Kuzma who have lovingly helped care for Carol and to Heartland Hospice and Care Builders at Home who helped to make it possible for her to be at home with her pets.

A Memorial Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date to be announced.  Her light will continue to shine in the hearts and lives of those she touched.
