COLUMBIANA – Carrie Ellen (Carol) Quattro, 91, passed away Monday, June 16, 2025, with her loving family by her side. She was born in Kerens, West Virginia in 1933 to Don and Dollie M. (Vanscoy) Phares. She was a graduate of Elkins High School class of 1951 and attended Youngstown State University.
Se was one of the original members of St. Jude Church in Columbiana, serving on parish council, building committee, eucharistic minister, usher, sacristan and rosary maker. She was a member of St. Jude’s Women’s Guild where she served as past president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer and program chairperson, and helped in everything she could involving the church.
She was one of the first volunteer EMT’s for the Village of Columbiana Ambulance Service, going on to become an EMT-A.
She was also a member of the Columbiana Auxiliary Police, a volunteer for the Red Cross blood drives, a Mahoning County poll worker, and past member of Columbiana Mother’s Club. She was active in school functions and always there to support her daughter and grandson in whatever sport or activity they were in.
She had an uncommon grace that couldn’t help but affect anyone who met her and knowing that it was the Lord who held her life in His hands. She walked daily with God and committed everything to prayer.
Her greatest achievements have been in the lives of her family and friends. She had a gift to recognize and appreciate the talents of others, and to make them feel loved and lifted by her presence. She didn’t know a stranger. Her generous heart filled her home with love, laughter, family and friends, including an attitude that there was always room for one more and a seat at her table full of her wonderful homemade cooking. She was truly blessed with many family and friends throughout her life.
With the passing of her husband George, in 2012, she chose to live out her remaining years with a grateful heart for the time they had together.
She leaves to cherish her love and memories, her daughter Monica (Rich) Fitch, her caretaker and best friend, and her grandson Rich (Abbie) Fitch, who she truly loved and cherished in her life. Also, her beloved furry friend and grand pup, Milo. She also leaves Sarah Corll and family and Cheryl Pate and family.
She also leaves special nieces Debbie (Rob) Wallace, Lynn (Lewis) Steinfeld, Carol Quattro and M. Peggy Quattro and special nephews Pat (Lisa) Quattro and John Quattro, and their families; special caretaker and family friend Tara Casanta, many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She also leaves her siblings, brothers Issac Phares, Don Phares, Jr., Bill Phares and John Phares, sisters Ethel Hazelwood, Regina Spencer and Yvonne Phillips.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Don and Dollie Phares, her husband George Quattro in January 2012, a sister Bobbie Hohman, sister Ina Cawrse, brother Jim Phares, a special nephew, Michael Quattro and many friends and family.
