Francis Hum Obituary

COLUMBIANA - Francis James (Jim) Hum, 93, of Columbiana, passed away December 22, 2024, at Hospice House in Boardman after a 2-week hospitalization.

Jim was born in Columbiana on March 10, 1931, son of Delmar William Hum and Irene Ann Bell Hum. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Wilma, of nearly 73 years; his sister, Patricia Hum Stacey and brother, Robert W Hum. As a lifetime resident of Columbiana, he was a 1949 graduate of Columbiana High School. He enjoyed track, football and basketball. The neighborhood kids called him Pee Wee and the nickname stuck.  Jim married his high school sweetheart, Wilma June Kabler on February 11, 1951. They were members of the First United Methodist Church. They enjoyed gardening, traveling, bowling league; boating and camping with the family.  Jim also enjoyed singing with the Barbershop choir and belonged to Mason’s Allen Lodge.

He was a skilled woodworker and was always doing carpentry side jobs. He was a hard-working provider and willing to help anyone with no concerns for compensation. His family was his world; so loving & caring with a great sense of humor. Jim was employed by Earl Newell Construction and Bucheit Construction, mostly building bridges.  He was a member of the Carpenters Union Local 171 for over 70 years. With the help of friends, Jim& Wilma built and completed their own home in 1955. They both lived in this beautiful home until their final days.

Jim is survived by his children; twins Rick (Crystal) Hum of Cincinnati, Vicki (Terry)Cosma of Marysville, Cheryl (Larry)Drane of Boardman, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
