Helen Reese

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP – Helen Reese, 77, died on October 19, 2024, after a short illness. She was born in Salem, Ohio on March 12, 1947, the first child of the late Merlin and Mary Bieber Reese.

She graduated in 1967 from Springfield Local High School. Helen worked at the GE Austintown Coil plant for 32 years where she made filaments for light bulbs and happily retired in 2009. In her younger years, she greatly enjoyed ballroom dancing. She had a long-time passion for family genealogy and spent many years doing research. Helen loved to travel, and destinations included Hawaii, Nova Scotia, Ireland, many US sites, and numerous trips to Virginia. She enjoyed learning about the Titanic, JFK and 9-11. She was a Red Hat Lady and had many outings with her Red Hat friends. She was an avid rummage and garage sale shopper and always delighted in finding a bargain. She loved the Christmas season and baking cookies to give away. She greatly enjoyed crafting, crochet, ceramics, and sewing. Helen made dozens of baby blankets for the Care Net Pregnancy Center. A lifelong Christian, she enjoyed worship and fellowship with her many friends at Mt. Olivet United Church of Christ.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her beloved Aunt Manola Reese. She leaves behind her sister Darla (Jim) Wessel, brother Wayne (Victoria) Reese, niece Nikki (Damian) Perry and their children Dylan, Dominic, and Madelyn.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Mt. Olivet United Church of Christ in North Lima. Friends may visit with family from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. with the service beginning at 11:00 a.m.
