NEW SPRINGFIELD – Janet Sue Hurst, 72, of New Springfield, passed away Tuesday afternoon, December 17, 2024, at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Boardman surrounded by her family.
Janet was born on April 26, 1952, in East Liverpool, OH, a daughter of Fred and Delores Rice. She was raised in Pinegrove, WV. She worked at Beaver Medical Center for many years after working prior in life as an EMT; later she was an independent in-home health care aide. She volunteered much of her time to The Big Reach Center of Hope, based in Greenford. Janet loved to bake and was an excellent artist. She played guitar at Ponderosa Park, and could grow anything, including flowers and vegetables.
Janet will be greatly missed by her husband Ross Hurst, children Carey Bucci, Tonya (Stephen Jr.)Durkac, Rawson (Heather) Hurst and Jamie (Brett) Myers; her grandchildren Phillip (Tiffany) Pelley, Rawson and Makayla Hurst, and Alexis, Dylan, and Madison Myers; her brothers James (Marty) Rice, Sunny Rice and Ronnie (Margaret) Rice; and sister-in-law Shirley Rice.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Loretta (Harold) Lemley, and brothers Raymond, Gary and Robert Rice.
A memorial service will be held at noon on Friday, December 20, 2024, at Seederly-Mong and Beck Funeral Home, 154 S. Elm Street, Columbiana.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home.
