Samuel Bell Obituary

Following an extended illness, Samuel Adam Bell of Columbiana, Ohio, went home to his heavenly father Thursday morning, May 9, 2019, at his home.

Sam was born October 25, 1942, in Venango County, PA.  He was the son of Donald L. Bell and Nellie M. Goettman Bell.  Sam graduated from Victory Joint School in 1961 and attended Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tennessee, where he met his wife.  He married the former Donna Kay Schoolcraft on July 21, 1962. Together they raised three children.

Sam was in construction for many years.  He started working and learning from his father in construction as a teenager, learning how to lay cement block, brick and all forms of building.  He actually started at 12 years old buying and selling junk to help support the family when his father was disabled. He was self-employed for many years but for the last several years he worked building churches across the country for Cogun, Inc, of North Lima, Ohio.  He then worked for Matthew R. Weaver, Lisbon, Ohio, retiring in 2013.

Sam was a member of the Columbiana Church of the Nazarene and served on the church board, teen director, taught Sunday school, and was the head greeter for several years.   He loved hunting, fishing, reading, and serving his church.

He volunteered in New York City for Thrust to the Cities working on construction for churches that didn’t have resources. He supervised and mentored teens at the Way Station, a community resource for families and individuals in need, in Columbiana, Ohio, for many years.

Loved ones left behind to cherish Sam’s memory are his wife Donna, his children Timothy W. Bell of Alliance, OH; Anita D. (Jarvis) Weaver of Archer City, Texas; grandchildren Jeffrey R. Bell, Timothy A. (Shayna) Bell, Jacob M. (Jake) Arkwright, Kirstin O. Arkwright Landers, Kaleb D. Arkwright, Brooke L. Arkwright, Jarvis D. Weaver II, Gabraella E. Weaver, Julian O. Weaver, Grace C. Weaver; his siblings Paul (Marilyn) Bell of Oil City, PA; Mary Ann Melosh of Potomac Falls, VA and Ruthie (Don) McKean of Phoenix, AZ.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved daughter Linette S. Walton who passed away August 7, 2013 at the age of 43; an infant brother John Lester Bell, and brother David L. Bell.

Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Jan Winnale on Monday, May 13, 2019 at 12:00 PM at Columbiana Church of the Nazarene 330 N. Elm St, Columbiana, OH 44408.
